曲作者Morgan Lewis一生寫過很多作品，但成為經典名曲的只有這首曲子。
1939年秋天，他嘗試用進行的變化和弦來寫此曲。並由其經常合作搭檔Nancy Hamilton所填詞，在1940年上檔的百老匯音樂劇《Tow For The Show》中的一首插曲，首唱的是Frances Comstock與Alfred Drake兩位劇中演員，當時劇情進行至此曲演唱出現時，並伴有Eunice Healey、Tommy Wonder、Nadine Gae與William Archibald等四位舞者於臺上出現跳著。其歌詞大意：「愛的人如果不在身邊，月亮也不會出來，如果我愛人妳來到我身邊，黑夜也會變成光明......。」
